Annotation This textbook is well organized and has the right balance between being comprehensive as well as digestible to those who are new to the information literacy world.

In addition to the explanatory text, the resource includes a number of exercises that could be incorporated into coursework that can assist students in putting concepts into practice.

One of the aspects that is also of great value is the fact that these materials are available to examine through multiple file formats and are therefore more easily accessible to students with physical limitations.

Another appealing element is that the CC license permits students a great deal of leeway in how they are able to utilize the resource.  They are able to share and present the materials freely as well as make tweaks to suit their own research and information gathering goals.

Author/Publisher Barbara D’Angelo, Sandra Jamieson, Barry Maid/WAC Clearinghouse
Resource Type Textbook
File Format PDF/E-Pub
License Type CC BY-NC-ND
Annotation This resource is a much more traditional textbook style that could be used as a resource by both the students and instructors to reference various aspects of the information literacy field of study.  There are valuable sections that classes could utilize as course readings as well as authoritative sources for student research.

The collaborative nature of this resource is of particular interest.  It represents a great possibility of the future of OER and the number of qualified authors whose names are attached to the item grant it a greater aura of credibility, which can concern many instructors looking into OER materials.

While there are a few restrictions on the Creative Commons licensing for this resource, it is still incredibly versatile and offers instructors a great alternative to the hoop-jumping that traditional publications can often present.  Additionally, students would be able to take advantage of the capabilities allowed under the standing license and utilize the product to do with as they may require.

Annotation While accessed through the OASIS OER database, this resource’s license type is a bit unclear.  While almost certainly OER in nature, additional investigation would have to be performed to determine in what way the resource could be utilized.

That being said, this resource is a great place to start when developing a plan of instruction for this particular topic and is well worth taking the time to look into.  If the license allows for adaptations and remixing, it is an ideal resource that and instructor, regardless of discipline, could utilize for their students.

Author/Publisher Alexandra Hamlett, Meagan Lacy/CUNY Guttman Community College
Resource Type Assignment

Annotation Much like the previous resource, the CC license information is not overtly posted with the resource.  Further investigations could be performed to determine the exact nature of the item, which would be necessary as this resource is designed as a participatory assignment to further understanding of information literacy goals.

This particular resource is an activity that could be done in or assigned outside the classroom setting and could be completed individually or within a group.  That kind of flexibility for teaching purposes is very convenient and the quality of the resource to achieve the established learning goals is quite appropriate.

Hopefully the license information is determinable as this item could be very useful in assisting students and instructors on the research and resource search process.
