Instructor Resources

This text has a 300 question text bank for instructor’s use in addition to the activities and quizzes provided with the cases.

We provide the test bank in the form of a Common Cartridge and as a .csv file appropriate for converting to other formats.

To access these, please email ost@geneseo.edu to be verified (to expedite your approval, email from your organizational email and provide a link to a public professional profile). Upon approval, you will be provided with a password to access the download below:

When you first download the test bank materials, it will be as a compressed folder (.zip):

📦 Zipped (compressed) folder — usually ending in .zip

This is normal and helps bundle multiple files together. To use the files you must extract (unzip) the folder first:

On Windows:

  1. Right-click the .zip file
  2. Select Extract All
  3. Click Extract

On Mac:

  1. Double-click the .zip file
  2. A new folder will automatically be created

📂 After Extracting

Inside the folder, you will typically find:

  • Common Cartridge file (.imscc) → ready to import into your LMS
  • CSV file (.csv) → for viewing or editing in Excel

👉 Use the .imscc file for direct import into D2L or other LMS platforms
👉 Use the .csv file only if you need to review or edit the questions

Common Cartridge (.imscc)

Moodle

Preferred: Converted or separate format

  • Moodle does not always fully support Common Cartridge question imports cleanly

Best options:

  • Use GIFT format if provided
  • Or:
    • Import .imscc via:
      • Restore course function (varies by setup)

CSV vs. Common Cartridge — When to Use Each

File Type Best Use Notes
.imscc ✅ Primary option Direct LMS import
.csv Editing / backup Requires conversion for most LMS

🔹 CSV File

  • Open with:
    • Excel
    • Google Sheets
  • You’ll see:
    • Questions in rows
    • Columns for answers, correct answers, etc.

⚠️ Important:

  • Do not re-save as Excel (.xlsx) if you plan to upload
  • Keep as .csv

Using a CSV in D2L

D2L does not reliably support generic CSV imports without specific formatting.

Recommended workflow:

  • Open CSV → Review/edit questions if needed
  • Use a tool like:
    • Respondus or another converter
  • Export as:
    • ✅ Brightspace package or QTI ZIP
  • Then import as described above

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If questions don’t appear:
    • Check Question Library / Banks, not just quizzes
  • If import fails:
    • Re-download file (may be corrupted)
  • If formatting looks incorrect:
    • Use the Common Cartridge version instead of CSV
